Church Services
There are seven services every week, each with its own distinctive flavor. Below is a brief description of each:
Sundays
7:30AM – Holy Eucharist Rite I
This service is quiet and meditative and is closely linked with the historic Book of Common Prayer services from the Church of England. It is derived from the English Prayer Book of 1662. There is a sermon and Holy Communion every Sunday. A very regular group composed of “early birds” and lovers of the historic worship forms of the Episcopal Church attend this service.
9:00AM – Contemporary Family Service
This service was designed by a group at St. Francis to be family-friendly. It follows the Episcopal Church outline of Bible readings, sermon, prayers and Holy Communion. Music Director Rick Schaefer (with a hot band) and the St. Francis Singers lead the contemporary music. The atmosphere is festive and informal. During certain times of the year, there are special musical themes featuring Gospel music, the Beatles and other contemporary artists.
10:30AM – Choral Eucharist Rite II
This service is characteristic of the traditional, formal worship of the Episcopal Church and uses the full 20 centuries of Christian worship in contemporary English. Music Director Rick Schaefer, playing the piano and organ, leads the congregation in music chosen from all the Episcopal Hymnals.
Noon – Children’s Service
Particularly designed to meet the needs of small children, this service is short, lively and fun, with lots of singing, a story, some prayers, and Holy Communion. Following the service, there is snack time, and time for play.
