Special Services

Other annual special services and events include the following:

  • Annual Meeting
    The last Sunday of January.
  • TV-out Week during Holy Week (March/April)
Individuals and families are urged to go without TV or other screen entertainment for a week. Prizes are offered to everyone 12 and under for going the full week!
  • Joke Sunday- The First Sunday after Easter
On this Sunday we follow medieval tradition and tell religious jokes during the sermon. The resurrection of Jesus is the ultimate joke played on Satan by God.
  • Vacation Bible School (first week of August)
A Monday-Friday experience for our youngsters. Lots of music, stories, games, crafts and fun in a loving environment.
  • Labor Day Picnic (First Monday of September)
Picnic at Heart’s Desire Beach on the Tomales Bay. Bring water toys and beach toys and food to grill and share.
  • St. Francis Day (first Sunday of October)
The only time all year when we do not have our regular schedule of 4 services. Instead, it’s one big all-parish service outdoors under the oaks. We set up folding chairs with spaces so that people can bring their pets with them to church. Afterwards, we bless all the animals.
  • Costume Sunday (last Sunday of October)
Parishioners come in costumes. The sermon is given by the Rector in the character of a real or fictional person from history.
  • Pledge Sunday (2nd Sunday of November)
The day when the regular parishioners are asked to make a financial pledge for the ongoing support of God’s work through our church.
  • Beatles Sunday (November)
A fun day celebrating the music of the Beatles featuring guest musicians.
  • Santa Claus Visits (2nd Sunday of December)
Santa Claus visits the 8:50 service and the noon service to teach the children about the importance of sharing. The children “give” presents to Santa, which he then shares with the Novato Human Needs Toy Ingathering.
  • Children’s Christmas Pageant (Sunday before Christmas)
A delightful re-telling of the Christmas Story as enacted by the children from our church.
  • Christmas Pajama Party (Christmas Day at 10:00 a.m.)
Adults and kids come in their pajamas for a fun celebration featuring show-and-tell, songs, a group telling of the Christmas Story and Holy Communion.
